“Cancelling a residential at the last minute because the whole year group needed to self isolate, was devastating for the pupils. Cohort were extremely understanding and refunded all money paid which the school and parents were incredibly grateful for.”Miriam Nisan, Halsbury Travel
To reiterate that trust we applied for and received the Visit England ‘Good to Go’ accreditation and the World Travel & Tourism Council ‘Safe Travels’ accreditation which means we are following British and worldwide industry standards to keep our accommodation safe and taking all necessary steps to stay Covid secure. See our certificate here.
We have inevitably had to make changes to the way we operate the hostel. Rooms have changed, facilities have changed, procedures have changed… but we haven’t changed! We are being led by UK Government guidelines, which are coming out frequently and so we are making further changes as guidance is published.
First things first
Meanwhile details of the changes we have made around the hostel can be seen below and our COVID-19 Risk Assessment can be downloaded form our Policies & Risk Assessments page.

Rooms & Furnishings
All our dorm rooms have large, sash windows which can be opened for ventilation. There are two internal rooms without external facing windows which are fully ventilated. These are small and are used for staff on a single occupancy basis.
We have removed the privacy curtains on the dorm beds to enable full sanitising between guests.
We have revised and implemented enhanced room cleaning protocols at Cohort. The cleaning products we use all meet UK Government guidance and are effective against enveloped viruses (Covid-19).
We are not currently servicing the rooms during your stay; bins will be emptied if left outside the vacated room in the morning.
We are operating reduced facilities at Cohort to ensure COVID security and for the time being the following areas / facilities are out of bounds:
Small dining room* | Dry room | Laundry area | Book exchange | Football table | TV area*
*Unless the school has exclusive use of Cohort and students are allowed to mix.
The self-catering kitchen will be available for schools to use on a time-slot basis only and time slots will be explained on arrival.
This does mean that staff and students cannot wander in at any time of day to make a tea or coffee however to compensate for that we are offering free tea & coffee in the lounge during reception opening hours (8am – 11pm).
Showers & Toilet Blocks
Currently any school that stays with us, no matter how small, will have exclusive use of either one entire building or the entire hostel (over two buildings). This will ensure that no shower facilities will be shared with guests outside of the school group.
In the case of smaller groups where they have exclusive use of one building there will be two shower blocks – one male and one female. The use of our unisex shower block will not be available.
Where groups have the entire hostel they will have access to all three shower blocks – male, female & unisex.
